This project is in its second year of funding. This is a collaborative project between three Model System Centers:

  • The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR)
  • Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center (MMRC)
  • Mayo Medical Center (MAYO)

The purpose of the study is to determine the importance of the pre-injury family environment in predicting long-term patient and family outcome after TBI. A major goal of the research is to develop models that can be used to identify family members and patients who are at risk for developing long-term adjustment problems. The information gained from the first two years of research will be used to develop and pilot a structured family intervention toward the end of the award period.
