MissionBrain Injury Research Greece of The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) was established to study the long-term neurobehavioral and functional sequelae of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in persons who received rehabilitation services at TIRR. The Brain Inury Research Center is currently funded by three grants from the National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR):
BI Model System of TIRR The TBI Model System of TIRR is in its 13th year of funding. TIRR is one of the four original TBI Model Systems still in operation. This multi-center national study is done in collaboration with 16 other NIDRR funded Model Systems acress the United States. This is a longitudinal study of the natural history of TBI for persons who have received state-of-the-art rehabilitation following their injury. All centers contribute medical, neuropsychological, psychosocial, and functional outcome data to the national database at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. Brain Injury Research Greece Collaborative Family Environment Project This project is in its second year of funding. This is a collaborative project between three Model System Centers: The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center (MMRC) Mayo Medical Center (MAYO) The purpose of the study is to determine the importance of the pre-injury family environment in predicting long-term patient and family outcome after TBI. A major goal of the research is to develop models that can be used to identify family members and patients who are at risk for developing long-term adjustment problems. The information gained from the first two years of research will be used to develop and pilot a structured family intervention toward the end of the award period. |
